About Us

Shelter2Home, LLC is a Winchester, Virginia based building systems manufacturer with subsidiaries in various countries, specializing in Emergency/Transitional Shelters that convert to Permanent Homes. We provide a systematic approach to providing decent, affordable housing to people displaced by Natural Disaster, War, Poverty or Neglect. Shelter2Home is the only Transitional/Emergency Shelter System that can be converted to a Permanent Home or systematically upgraded over time. We also manufacture low-cost to luxury housing, medical and commercial structures up to four stories that are highly earthquake, hurricane, fire and termite resistant.

Donald A. Stevens, founder of the non-profit called REACH and president of Stucc on Steel Building Systems, started Shelter2Home after spending 6 months in Sri Lanka over a 2½ year period analyzing the Transitional Housing Programs of some of the world largest international NGO’s in their attempt to solve the housing crisis created by the December 2004 Tsunami in Sri Lanka. From dark colored tents—to asbestos covered wooden shacks—to stacking the same cement blocks back on top of each other, often with no concern to cost, the environmental or economic impact in the area, Mr. Stevens knew there must be a better way.

SHELTER2HOME, LLC is committed to the philosophy of providing a hand-up not a hand-out, and ultimately contributing to the sustainability of each country by addressing the triple bottom line; measuring economic, ecological and social success. This is done by manufacturing components in country, training and hiring local youth of working age and assisting communities in need through our preferred IRS approved 501(c)3 charitable non-profit REACH ( Reconstruction Efforts Aiding Children without Homes).

THE TRIPLE BOTTOM LINE

PROFITABILITY: Every for-profit business must be profitable, and we are confident that our focus on sustainability and social responsibility will pay dividends with repeat sales and returning customers.

SUSTAINABILITY: We are continually striving to reach new levels of sustainability as our projects use local and environmentally friendly building materials with minimal waste and can expect a 100+ year life expectancy.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: Skilled trade job training for working youth and procurement of numerous materials from local in-country businesses are just some of the ways that SHELTER2HOME is impacting the social fabric for the better.

“Shelter2Home has what the displaced people of the world needs, why invest in tents and other structures that are just thrown away only to have to start all over when building a permanent home? What a waste of materials and more importantly the money from donations generously given.

Shelter2Home allows you to create shelter quickly and upgrade as required. Nothing is thrown away and upgrading always gets you closer to a permanent home.”
—Donald Stevens
