Our client, Cross International, has a goal to provide education to hundreds of children throughout Haiti living as domestic servants, called “restaveks,” by supporting 19 specialized schools. The education provided at these schools will empower restavek children to change their situation by giving them the tools they need for a better life. The Gressier School, located about an hour drive west of Port au Prince, is the site one of those schools. This new three classroom facility was designed and built by Shelter2Home. Teachers and students are excited to use the space. They started decorating the walls with murals and were using the facility before construction was completed. The school is noticeably cooler than the church and the classical school on site. This was accomplished by the installation of Shelter2Home’s thermal-reflective, barrier insulation, increased ventilation and natural and fluorescent lighting.
